Мир смирен: все люди едят и бегают над его твердынею. Небытие поглощается беспромежуточным. Поэтому я знаю, что бездеятельность имеет высокое достоинство. Бессловесное учение и бездеятельность полезнее всего существующего между небом и землей.

В мире есть некоторые вещи, которые, по своей природе, хотя весьма жидки и тонки, однако ж проникают самые твердые тела, какие только могут быть в целом мире. По внешности своей они столь неприметны, что как будто бы их совсем не было, однако ж бытие их обнаруживается действием их на другие предметы, как, например, воздух, который, по природе своей, так тонок и неприметен, как будто бы его совсем не было, но он проницает такие тела, которые никаких не имеют скважин, как то металлы и камни; отсель ясно можно видеть, что бездейственность для нас полезна. Впрочем, не многих можно найти, которые стремились бы изучать себя в той науке, которая преподается не словами, но выражается делами, и искать той пользы, которая происходит от бездейственности.

Самое уступчивое покоряет самое твердое. Немногие в мире постигают учение без речей и выгоду неделания.

1. The world's weakest overcomes the world's hardest. 2. Non-existence enters into the impenetrable. 3. Thereby I comprehend of non-assertion the advantage. There are few in the world who obtain of non-assertion the advantage and of silence the lesson.

The weakest things in the world will gallop over the strongest. The non-existent enters into (all things) without any crevice (can penetrate the impenetrable). And I by this understand how useful non-action is. Silent teaching, passive usefulness, — few in the world attain to this.

The softest thing in the world dashes against and overcomes the hardest; that which has no (substantial) existence enters where there is no crevice. I know hereby what advantage belongs to doing nothing (with a purpose). There are few in the world who attain to the teaching without words, and the advantage arising from non-action.

So wie wir in der ganzen Welt sehen, dass das Feinere — das Gasförmige und das Flüssige — überall rasch ein- und selbst feste Körper durchdringt, so dringt auch das Immaterielle selbst da ein, wo keine Zwischenräume sind. Schon darum allein, weil das Körperlose überall und überall ist, ersehen wir, dass es einen grossen nützlichen Zweck haben muss, und obschon sich das schwer durch Worte erklären lässt, dass und wie das Körperlose, das Immaterielle einen Nützlichkeitszweck hat, so hoffe ich doch, dass einstmals die ganze Welt dahin gelangen wird, dies vollkommen einzusehen.

Der Welt Allernachgiebigstes überwältigt der Welt Allerhärtestes. Das Nicht-Seyende durchdringt das Zwischenraumlose. Daraus erkenne ich des Nicht-Thuns Vortheil. — Des Nicht-Redens Lehre, des Nicht-Thuns Vortheil, Wenige in der Welt erreichen sie.

Das Allerweichste auf Erden überholt das Allerhärteste auf Erden. Das Nichtseiende dringt auch noch ein in das, was keinen Zwischenraum hat. Daran erkennt man den Wert des Nicht-Handelns. Die Belehrung ohne Worte, den Wert des Nicht-Handelns erreichen nur wenige auf Erden.
